In BigML we’re well aware of the needs of complex Corporations to spread Machine Learning throughout their corporate networks. Bringing Machine Learning into the company is usually envisioned as the enticing challenge of building a solution to an existing problem from the existing data. However, it is equally important to realize the need for that solution to be applicable to the new data. Our solution will only be useful if it can become a new asset in the tool set of every employee. Some Corporations choose to build customized dashboards which translate the Machine Learning concepts to each type of end-user domain. As optimal as that may be, it can also be quite costly, especially for big Corporations with different departments and goals. Wouldn’t it be great if we found a quick and homogeneous way of bringing Machine Learning to everyone’s desktop?
BigML Add-on for Google Sheets
A direct access to BigML’s Machine Learning models has already existed for quite some time. Nowadays, many users enjoy filling their Google Sheets with predictions based on the models trained in their account thanks to the BigML-GAS add-on. If you are not familiar with the add-on capacities, you can read the following post that describes them in length. In brief, it allows you to access the models in your BigML account and apply them to the data in your Google Sheets to produce predictions that are added to them. It also allows you to upload the data in your spreadsheet to BigML so that you can build models or batch predictions from it, and download the resulting datasets.
Now, the same ability has been extended to entire Corporations by combining the power of the add-on and our BigML’s Organizations.
BigML Organizations
Machine Learning is rarely a single-person task. Even more in Corporations, where data flows like sensory inputs from extremities to a central repository and back, transformed into action commands. Many profiles will be involved in the process of building a solution, and teams that share information and resources will naturally form and be assigned to different projects. That’s exactly the philosophy behind our Organizations.
A BigML Organization is the Corporation Machine Learning workspace, where Corporation employees can collaborate to build and use Machine Learning solutions. That workspace is totally independent of the personal Dashboard of each employee. Its resources and permissions are granted by administrators, that can manage the Projects to be developed and the teams that collaborate in each of them. The resulting models will be created in those Projects inside the corporate workspace, so can we use the add-on to provide access to them from your Google Sheets?
BigML-GAS for Corporations
The BigML-GAS add-on has now extended its functionality to allow users to access their Corporate workspace.
As BigML allows on-site installation, your Company’s BigML API may be using a different domain. If that’s the case, you can use the first selector to choose your own API host name. Also, you can choose to work with the models in your own workspace or in the Corporation Organization workspace.
If you choose the Organization, you will need to input its ID. That can be found by clicking the API key & resource/id icon in your Dashboard, as explained in this FAQ. Finally, adding your credentials will allow you to log in and use the Organization Projects, provided that you have been granted permission to use them.
And that’s all you need to use all the models available in your BigML Organization from your spreadsheets. The add-on will bridge the gap between your Google Sheet and the BigML Organization, so that you can work transparently with both of them applying your models to your local data.
