Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the landscape of academic publishing—but are our ethical policies, guidelines, and practices keeping pace?

To assess the current state of AI in academic publishing and identify awareness of related regulations and policy gaps, we have launched a global study as a part of the ninth edition of our Research Risk Assessment initiative: “Responsible Use of AI in Academic Publishing: A global study on the use, risks, and policy gaps.” This study explores how AI tools, particularly large language models (LLMs), are being used in scholarly publishing, and what this means for academic integrity, transparency, and trust.

Whether you’re a researcher, editor, reviewer, or science communicator, your perspective is vital!

Key Aims and Objectives

  • Assess real-world use of AI in academic writing and publishing
  • Identify gaps in policy and practice—particularly in areas around academic integrity
  • Promote responsible innovation and check how academia can use these tools ethically and effectively
  • Inform the development of clearer, fairer, and more consistent guidelines for the responsible integration of AI in scholarly publishing
  • Strengthen trust in research to shape practices that preserve human oversight, originality, and transparency

Your input will contribute to shaping more informed, ethical, and inclusive standards on AI-use in academic publishing. As a token of appreciation, we’re offering Amazon vouchers worth USD 20 to 10 participants sharing most valuable insights.

The survey takes just 10–15 minutes, is completely anonymous, and is open until July 5, 2025.

Who should participate?

  • Early career researchers
  • Seasoned Academicians
  • Editors
  • Publishers
  • Science communicators
  • Anyone engaged in scholarly writing, assessment, or policy
  • Students, mentors, etc.

This is your chance to influence global conversations around responsible AI use in academia. Join us to ensure that the adoption of AI enhances—not erodes—academic rigor, equity, and trust.

Participate in the survey now!
